The Anchor in Their World: What It Means to Be a Secure Base
Every child needs someone they can count on, a safe place to come back to when the world feels overwhelming.
This workshop is about what it’s really like to be that person. Drawing on Dr Joanna Naxton’s lived experience and ideas for a future publication, we will explore the idea of being a child’s “secure base” , not in academic terms, but in the everyday realities of parenting and caring.
Together, we’ll reflect on the joys and challenges of being the one children turn to, and what it means to hold steady through their struggles, fears, and growth.
In this workshop, we’ll explore:
What it really means to be a child’s safe place in everyday family life
Why children need both safety and freedom to thrive
The challenges parents and carers face in being that steady anchor
Practical ways to strengthen trust, connection, and resilience
Honest reflection on your lived experience as a parent or carer
Who Is It For?
Parents, carers, therapists, and anyone supporting children who want to understand more about how to provide safety, trust, and connection in the ups and downs of everyday life.
